What are the possible ways to draw a figure that can be included in a latex document?

Depends a little bit on the kind of figure. There are many possible tools to get proper figures included in a document.

• Internal: aymptote, metapost, pgf/tikZ, pstricks
• External: Inkscape, OpenOffice.org Draw, XFig
