How to replace all in directory

Post by kiki.kiki »

Hi all,

I use Texniccenter for quite some while now and generated lots of thesis-text and spread over around 30 files. Some words I used inconsistently, trusting that there would be a way to just change the words in all files within my thesis directory with a little click on a menu option. But ... I can't find a menu option like that. I do find "find in files" but no "replace in files", only a replace-all in 1 file possibility.

Since I have several replace-all jobs to do, I hope somebody knows how to change a string into another string in all files in a certain directory. I am willing to download another Latex editor if that is what it takes.

Many thanks in advance!

Kiki

If TXC can't do that, I'm sure there are many programs that can. Since .tex files are just plain text, you have lots of options. Here are some that might work:

http://www.wingrep.com/

http://www.nirmaltv.com/2008/11/05/find ... ple-files/

(I've never tried any of these personally, so I can't vouch for them... I don't even use Windows. But Notepad++ has a good reputation overall.)

P.S. I think this forum is supposed to be about text formatting in LaTeX. Your question is more about TXC or editors in general. Perhaps one of the moderators will move it.

Sorry for coming back to you this much delayed

I just forgot to write down my gratitude, while I was very happy to get an answer that fast. Your first suggestion works like a charm. Thank you very much!
