Can Kile close the pldf and reopen ?

Post by guoqinren »

I use texniccenter on my windows box. When I quickbuild the file it can close the pdf before it is written to and reopen it after it is finished. I'm wondering if Kile has the same functionality.

I could be wrong, but I think this has more to do with your PDF viewer than with your TeX editor. Anyway, I use Kile, and have what amounts to this. (I don't think it closes the PDF--it just tells the PDF viewer to reload it after it's edited, but no real difference. If you actually want it closed while compiling, I'm sure it can do that too, provided your PDF viewer can be sent a command to do that. Great thing about Kile is that you can set up QuickBuild to execute whatever commands you want.)

As frabjous already mentioned, Kile and the associated viewers interact different. Version 2.0.3 of Kile is linked to the viewers KDVI, KGhostview and KPDF. All of them can be configured in a way that they observe the opened file and reload it in case of modifications. Thus closing the document becomes superfluous. The upcoming Kile 2.1 will be related to Okular as universal viewer for all the output formats. But it works in the same way.
