Truetype font installing, frutiger HOW?

Post by corderin »

Hi,

I have been trying to install a new font on my MikTeX dsitribution, but it seems not to work. I have Windows O.S. and TeXniCcenter installed.

I followed the following tutorial: http://www.radamir.com/tex/ttf-tex.htm but sadly I didn´t manage to install the frutiger package.
Since I have Windows O.S.

I have already the .vf, .tfm, .map and the rest of files, but as I copied them in the directories where the files with the same extension of other fonts are located the Package Manager of MikTeX still says there is no such package...

It couldn´t be so difficult, could somebody help me please!

Refresh the file name database (FNDB) in the MiKTeX settings.

Now it seems to find the package, but I get the error `nfssext.sty' not found, and as I remove the line \RequirePackage{nfssext} from the file frutiger.sty and I build my .tex I get no fonts, only the minipages, images and so on... :?

I guess this `nfssext.sty' is necessary but I don´t know how to get it...

With good cause I cannot comprehend your single steps for installation. So I don't know what has gone wrong. But I can give you another source for the desired font [1]. Going up to the parent directory you can download the whole "corelpak" including the Frutiger font as ZIP archive with all necessary files.

The problem is there is no good guide on how to install fonts under Windows O.S....only under Linux...the only way for me was to copy the files in the directories I thought they should be located.

I can´t figure out why the font installation in LaTeX isn´t also with packages...

Localghost,

I guess my new font is almost installed, texniccenter detects the frutiger package, but I get the following errors:

C:\...\MiKTeX 2.7\miktex\bin\dvips.exe: Font rlfrbj9t not found, characters will be left blank.
C:\...\MiKTeX 2.7\miktex\bin\dvips.exe: Font rlfrrj9t not found, characters will be left blank.
C:\...\MiKTeX 2.7\miktex\bin\dvips.exe: Font rlfrrj9t not found, characters will be left blank.
C:\...\MiKTeX 2.7\miktex\bin\dvips.exe: Font rlfrbj9t not found, characters will be left blank.

As a result I get no characteres printed...could you or somebody help me with this matter?
Thank you in advance!

Obviously you now used the files from the source that I gave in an earlier post. From the messages by dvips I guess that you didn't enable the according map files for your new font. Open again a command prompt and build them.

Code: Select all

initexmf --mkmaps

Herr Localghost,

I followed your tip, but now I am getting this error:

) ("C:\Archivos de programa\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\latex\frutiger.sty"
Package: frutiger 2005/08/08 v1.2 Style file for Linotype Frutiger

("C:\Archivos de programa\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\latex\base\fontenc.sty"
Package: fontenc 2005/09/27 v1.99g Standard LaTeX package

("C:\Archivos de programa\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\latex\t1lfrj.fd"
File: t1lfrj.fd 2005/08/08 Fontinst v1.928 font definitions for T1/lfrj.
)
! Font T1/lfrj/m/n/10.95=lfrrj9d at 10.95pt not loadable: Metric (TFM) file not
found.

<to be read again>
relax
l.222 \begin{document}

I wasn't able to read the size data for this font,
so I will ignore the font specification.

[Wizards can fix TFM files using TFtoPL/PLtoTF.]
You might try inserting a different font spec;
e.g., type `I\font<same font id>=<substitute font name>'.

Im Voraus vielen Dank!

Slowly but surely I'm running out of advices. I can only suggest to do some reading about font installation [1,2]. Perhaps you will find more useful hints in these documents.
