Hey guys,
I am currently writing a scientific paper and want the title to be on a page, then the contents and an abstract. But after that is there a way that I can convert the rest of the document to be formatted into columns?

Yes, put \twocolumn after the single-column content.
Bear in mind that most journals do not want you to format it as it will appear---format it for the reviewers, let them format for the readers during production.
