Recommend a LaTeX compiler/editor for me

Post by Singularity »

Hi.

I used to use TeXnicCenter and liked it for it's good keyboard usability. But it seems to not be that popular or well-recommended or no longer updated.

I am on a brand new Win 10 PC. What editors (and I guess I have to install a compiler) would you recommend for me? Important features to me are:
  • Good fast, easy keyboard integration and shortcuts.
  • Configurability shortcuts. For example, in TeXnicCenter, I changed the shortcuts that fill in when you start to type code to suit the defaults I usually use. TBF, it was rather difficult to figure out in that app.
  • Use mostly on my PC. But also be able to use it on a website for when I'm away from home.
Less important is installation, since that's only one-time. And obviously I like fast compilation time and/or fast WYSIWYG.

Thanks,
Jeff

You seem to be expecting more from your editor than it does.

What you need to install is a TeX distribution. I recommend TeX Live.

An editor is already installed on your system. I like to use vim, others would recommend emacs. Others recommend TeXstudio. But in the end, it's your decision.
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.
