Hi there, I've been using LaTeX intermittently since about 2011 or so ever since I realised that my lecturers at the time used it to typeset our logic exam papers. (Computer Modern is very distinctive.) I dabbled a bit and forgot about it. But I've recently figured that I should knuckle down and start learning how to use it properly after the nightmarish experience of writing my M.Sc in a flaky WYSIWYG word processor with an unreliable styles implementation.

I now have The LaTeX Companion on the way here, and have been going through Leslie Lamport's book and the documentation of some of the packages in the TeX Live distribution in the meantime.

Pleased to meet you all.

Welcome to the forum!

Leslies book is old but good for learning all the basics. I would just say, today, I would use KOMA-Script classes right from the beginning, and I consider article, book, report etc. as default base classes for backward compatibility. So, an excellent addition for learning LaTeX would be, in my opinion, the KOMA-Script manual in print or as PDF.

Thanks, Stefan. I'll definitely be adding that to my reading list.
