I am a new Tex user. I am using Winedt. I am trying to put two figures side by side. Several sites suggests using subifgure or subfig package. But I could not figure out how to get "subfigure or subfig package" installed and working. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Help with subfigure
WinEdt can be operated with MiKTeX or TeX Live. So we need to know exactly which LaTeX system you are running on your machine, because the procedure of package installation depends on that.

Dear Thorsten,
Thanks for your reply. I am using MikTex. I tried to use Miktex package manager to install subfigure, but it gave me an error "Host not found", and could not download the package.

Help with subfigure
It would be very nice to know the version you are using. Repositories are closed for version 2.5 and version 2.6 is considered outdated. So the current version 2.7 is recommended.newTexUser wrote:[...] I am using MikTex. To make sure you have the best connection, you should choose a server in your country. You can change the package repository either in the MikTeX Settings (attachment No.1) or with the MiKTeX Package Manager (attachment No.2). Both are accessible via Start -> Programs -> MiKTeX.
The subfigure package has been superseded by subfig. The current version of the caption package comes with a package called subcaption, which also supports typesetting subfigures with captions.

Re: Help with subfigure
Hi again,
I uninstalled Miktex 2.6, and installed the basic package for MikTex 2.7, and I got the same problem. The problem remains that when I try to install any package through the Package Manager, I get the error that could not identify the host. How does the host get specified, and what host should I use?
Help is still needed. Thanks.
Hazem

Re: Help with subfigure
Here is the error that I get when I try to change repository: "Host not found" ..."get host by name failed in tcp_connect()".
If I try to download the package, I get: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it." ... Then "connect failed in tcp_connect()"
Does this point to some particulat setting issue?
Thanks...

Help still needed if anyone knows the answer to my challenge. Thanks...
Re: Help with subfigure
Personally, I always update my installation from a local repository. The way I do this is downloading via ftp on my hard disk the whole miktex package repository on CTAN. It is very easy to check your local repository is up to date with, say, Filezilla, as you have an explorer-like window of the directories of the local and remote sites.
