Reading and Editing non-Latin Alphabet

Post by shep »

Hello,

I've got a text that contains Latin and non-Latin characters (Cyrillic). The non-Latin characters do not display properly. What can I do in LEd in order to make them
  1. look as they should
  2. edit them?
So the text was
  1. edited in LEd by the author
  2. compiled in TeXworks by the author.
Now I need to add my remarks and neither LEd nor TeXworks display Cyrillic characters as it should. When the file is opened on the author's computer, LEd displays the Cyrillic characters just fine, but not TeXworks! I mean what may be the reason for that and what might be the suggestions?

Thank you.
shep

Make sure that the file encoding is set to Unicode (UTF-8) in both editors. In TeXworks you can see the encoding in the status line at the bottom of its main window. I can't tell for LEd, but you should think about using another editor instead of one that hasn't been developed for almost four years. Any reasons against using only TeXworks?

Hi Thorsten!

Thanks for posting. I've got no problems using TeXworks. I use it for my own work. But this time we need to find a fix and a sort of mutation of the work done in LEd onto TeXworks or something else more stable. So how can I choose the encoding in LEd? I do not see the options in the menus, really - really ... :(

I do not work on Wind0ws. Hence I can't tell you about LEd. I would suggest to discard this obsolete editor in favor of a modern one. That would save you a lot of time instead of trying to solve a problem that only a few people can comprehend. A remote diagnosis is not possible (for me).
