sfmath.sty installation

Post by eglucon »

I currently use the MiKTeX 2.9 distribution and I want to install the sfmath.sty package (version 0.8 which I already know is on the CTAN. However, when I run my .tex file in TeXnicCenter (with \usepackage{sfmath} in the preamble), the style is not installed automatically, and the error "LaTeX Error: File sfmath.sty not found" is displayed. )

So in order to install the missing package, I downloaded and copied it manually at the directory "C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\tex\latex\sfmath\sfmath.sty" (which is the one where other packages are installed). Inmediateley after, I went to "Start\Programs\MiKTeX2.9\Maintenance\Settings" and clicked the button "Refresh FNDB", in order to let know MiKTeX the new installed package.

However, it turns out that the error "LaTeX Error: File sfmath.sty not found" still is displayed when I run the .tex file. It is worth noting that I've installed other packages in the same way, and it worked without errors.

Is anything wrong I am doing in the installation process?

On the other hand, why does the package is not installed automatically, despite the fact that is on the CTAN?

Thank you very much.
Regards,
Eglucon.

Thank you very much cgnieder.

The solution is displayed in the answer by Stefan Kottwitz in the instructions you posted, which is as follows:

In order to install manually a package, provided you have the MiKTeX 2.9 distribution, you must update the FNDB in admin mode if you have a multiuser setup, inmediately after you have copied the package in the appropiate directory.
