Add new Packages to MiKTeX Installation

Post by jeffry01 »

Good afternoon Sir/Madame,

I am writing my thesis using TeXnicCenter 1.0 in cooperated with MiKTeX 2.9. I would like to add a new package -- chapterbib -- which does not include in MiKTeX 2.9, to be able to write bibliographies separately at the end of each chapter.

I followed instructions given here: http://docs.miktex.org/manual/localadditions.html
I downloaded chapterbib zip package from CTAN, unzipped it, then copied four of .sty files from there into sub-directory C:\Local TeX Files\text\latex\misc\chapterbib that I created. Then I registered this root-directory in MiKTeX Options. However, after I added \usepackage{chapterbib} in my program, MiKTeX 2.9 still does not recognize the package.

My questions are:
  1. Was I doing the right thing to install new packages that do not include in Miktek2.9 repository?
  2. If not, is there any other way to do it?
Thank you very much for your help and you have a nice day.

-Jeffry

Add new Packages to MiKTeX Installation

The chapterbib package is part of the cite bundle. You can find this in the package list of the MiKTeX Package Manager (see attachment). Hence there is no need to add the package manually. Cancel all what you have done so far.

Best regards and welcome to the board

Thanks! Thorsten. Finally I can use chapterbib features by adding cite package as you suggested.

I came across an easy way to build separated bibliography at end of each chapter, but I forgot to save that reference citation. Here is what works for me:

1. Build the main.tex file
2. Open each and every chapter into TexNicCenter. Click on each tab (ch1.tex, ch2.tex, etc.) and build bibtex. Repeat this step for every chapter.
3. Build main.tex twice

Remarks: It seems to me that the step 2 only works when all bibfiles (ch1.bib, ch2.bib, etc.) are saved in the same directory as main.tex.

Thank you again, Thorsten (localghost). Happy New year!
