Package Installation fails due to missing Connection

Post by Koen_fin »

Dear all,

Because I was getting fed up with MS Word, I now decided to write my MSc thesis in LaTeX. I have installed MiKTeX 2.8 on both my windows notebook at work and my mac book at home.

On my mac book at home I don't feature any problems at all, it is actually a pleasure to work with. But on the windows notebook I have a basic problem. Every time that I am trying to use a new package, say for example "wrapfig", I type it into the preamble. When LaTeX then try's to install the new package it gets an error. It seems that the repository isn't set.

When moving to the package manager and manually select the package I would like to install I get the following error:
connect failed in tcp_connect()
What to do or what to change?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

1. Since you mentioned M.Sc thesis, perhaps you installed MiKTex when you are behind a university firewall and trying to update the package manager outside your university campus (I am just guessing)

2. When one install MiKTeX behind a firewall and environment variable, http_proxy is set. You would need to edit the variable to use it outside campus.

3. Since I am not sure if the above case is true, one quick way to test it, is trying to update the package while in university campus and see if MiKTeX complains the same.

Wish you well.
