Hello LaTeX lovers,
I'm on a ubuntu powered machine and I would like to use an editor similar to NotePad++.
I used SciTE, however it doesn't have nice UTF-8 support (e.g. Notepad++ can allow you set the headers of the file without writing the BOM).
At the moment I'm using VIM which is pretty decent, but I am looking for something more visual.
Any suggestions would be cool.
Many thanks,
VG

Notepad++ alternative for Ubuntu/Linux
Hi,
I'm using Kile on Ubuntu. During installation some KDE libs were installed, but those did never cause problems, I've been using Kile for years on several Ubuntu versions.
Another sophisticated LaTeX editor running on Ubuntu is Texmaker.

You might be interested in a blog post I wrote comparing 8 free LaTeX editors. I was using Ubuntu when I wrote it, so all the editors mentioned there can run on Ubuntu.
Since I've never used Notepad++, I don't know what's most similar to it, but perhaps gedit or geany with the right assortment of plugins?
Consider gvim for a more graphical version of vim, as well, which I what I use. Kile would probably be my second choice.
