Automatic backup of tex file.

Post by Weyl »

I had tried WinEdt before I installed TexnicCenter.

Now I am using TeXnicCenter, it is free, and I like the IDE.

But one thing, seems that TeXnicCenter will not backup the tex file I am working on (WinEdt will back the tex file). When I copy tex files to my usb disk, or synchronize my working directory with external hard disk, I am always nervous. If I copy / synchronize incorrectly (this is likely to happen), I might lose the latest version.

If this happens, if this tex file is edited in WinEdt, I can always find a ???.tex.bak file, which is close to the latest version.

Can the developer just add this feature (to create backup file automatically, and let user set the backup behavior)? It might not be so difficult to implement, but it is really useful ( couple of people I know have the same opinion on this issue).

Thanks in advance!

You should meanwhile think seriously about using a version control system like cvs or subversion (svn). Subversion is provided for many OSes, I'm not sure, if cvs is.
No or not enough coffee, user halted.
