I didn't see a "newbies" or "new members" forum, so I thought I'd introduce myself here. Up until last week, I only had a vague idea of what LaTex was and didn't see a pressing need to learn anything more.

Then I was hired as a contract Technical Writer for a company that needs to have a new product documented for a variety of audiences. My predecessor had to leave suddenly due to a personal crisis and I was quickly brought on board through a recruitment agency. He had been using Office 2007 to produce content, which was quite a problem for the developers responsible for creating the online help content.

I'm not a big Word fan myself...at least not as far as producing web-related content, and after a conversation or two with one of the developers, we decided that my producing content using LaTex (TeTex really, since I'll be working on an Ubuntu PC) would be a much better fit.

I've had about three days or so to read documentation I've found online and the past day or two to work with LaTeX using Kile.

I know enough to create a basic document, but will probably need help with some of the details. The developer who suggested LaTeX to me did so on the strength of his writing his dissertation using it (using LaTeX was required and he was provided with a ready-made template with which to do the writing). He left on a short vacation before I started working with LaTeX and he came back today, fairly well impressed with my progress. While he'll be a resource in my efforts, I thought I'd try to line up other resources as well...hence my appearance here.

Sorry for the long intro, but I thought I should let you all know where I'm coming from before I started posting questions. Thanks in advance for your patience and help.

Cheers.

-Trip

Thanks for the welcome, Sven. When I came back to the forums just now and saw the New Members forum, I thought I must have been blind last night when I first posted. After a wave of embarrassment, I read your reply. Thanks again. :)
