Decision Guidance ⇒ Error while installing MikTex and texstudio

Hi!
I want to write a book in spacecraft dynamics and I am running windows 7 64-bit.
First i don't know if miktex and texstudio are the things to go for...
Second I attempted to install miktex but i got some error and i attach the log file with and the error.
I am thinking in using Asymptote for creating the figures. Also I would be importing files or pictures from matlab and mathematica.
I would like to know your opinion.

Hi Alexandros!

MiKTeX is ok, but I must admit from what I noticed in forums that there are sometimes installation issues and error messages, I did not hear it in such an amount of TeX Live. I used MiKTeX years ago, since it seemed to be a natural choice on Windows, as it's Windows-specific. But for many years I use TeX Live. That's a comprehensive TeX running on Windows, Mac, Linux, and other Unixes, maintained by a team of the TeX Users Group.

It could be worth a try, since MiKTeX doesn't work with an unclear error: you could remove MiKTeX and install TeX Live over the network. The installation can run for 2 hours, depending on the speed of the Internet connection. It always worked for me on Mac laptop, Ubuntu Linux, and Windows. Sometimes an installation stopped (Internet slow), then I restarted and after verifying downloaded packages it continued.

Hi Stefan,

I downloaded the install-tl-windows.exe and i my antivirus deleted the file cause it foung a virus. See attachment.
So I changed the mirror to the following:
http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/CTAN/syste ... ive/tlnet/

I hope it installs properly now

Still i have problem installing Tex Live
I removed the miktex files by deleting them.
I disabled my antivirus.
Then i run the installation of Tex Live.
At the end of installation after a couple of hours the attached messsage appeared.
No icon of Tex Live at Start menu or shortcut at desktop.

I finally installed TexLive 2016.
I had to go to https://www.tug.org/texlive/acquire-netinstall.html
then download the .zip archive then unzip it and then run the install-tl-advanced.bat file.
I had a couple of failures before installing it to my pc.
