Articles, Essays, and Journal Templates ⇒ General Template Doesn't Produce the Needed J.Chem.Phys. Tem

Hello Everybody,

The Journal of Chemical Physics requires the manuscripts to be submitted in this format: http://goo.gl/Q6kmaQ (please go to Download pdf).

However, the template given by the American Chemical Society (http://www.latextemplates.com/templates ... o-demo.pdf) clearly appears to produce quite a different result from the one desired.

Notice, that the article is in two column format (that's easy to change with twocolumn) and the references are listed with numbers as superscripts without parentheses (this is hard to figure out). How is the template to be modified so that the outcome produced be as desired by the JCP? Thanks in advance.

I am sorry, but i am confused. You want to submit something to AIP (American Institute of Physics) and complain that the template of the ACS (American Chemical Society) does not fit?

A google search for journal of chemical physics latex template immediately leads me to https://publishing.aip.org/authors/journal-guidelines

As noted, the achemso class is for submissions to the American Chemical Society, not for journals published by the American Institute of Physics. For the latter, you should use REVTeX.

My Bad. Sorry for the confusion. I did, however, try the required by AIP REVTeX 4.1 JCP style file (ftp://ftp.aip.org/revtex/revtex4-1.zip) and couldn't even render the .tex files there. AIP template seems to be even more confusing than the ACS template. There must be something more to it.

Can you be a bit more specific on what cannot render tex files means? Which file specificaly, did you receive any errors? Did you read the file README? Did you install everything properly (REVTeX should be installed by default with a full distro installation)?

By "cannot render the .tex file" I mean I cannot compile the files 00readme.tex and reftest4-1.tex, which seem to be the only .tex files that appear after twice unzipping revtex4-1.zip. I can, however, read what's in the 00readme.tex file when opening it in WinEdt but I don't really see anything useful in it. It basically lists a bunch of changes that have been made. Incidentally, I'm always using rextex4, as well as revtex4-1 in my other work but in this case I can't do anything with the revtex4-1.zip provided by AIP. Obviously, I'm missing something.

Well then, use REVTeX like you always do and don't loose time with the zip file.

Notice, however, that JChemPhys wants the numbers in the list of references as superscripts. Don't know how to do that. Also, I don't have the font JChemPhys uses.

They want the tex file, not the pdf, right? It is their job to publish your content in the style the Journal defines.

Maybe they are using a font with a license fee of 1000 US Dollars? Is everybody submitting to the journal supposed to buy that license? No.

Thanks. What I understand is that I should just use my own templates with revtex4-1, the way I always do, and not bother with AIP suggested templates. I'm still curious, though, how to make the list of references have their numbering as superscripts.
