Book format in two columns with memoir class

Post by codion »

Hello,
I am new with limited knowledge of LaTeX. I am trying to develop my mathematics class notes into a book so that I have 2 columns:

the left column will be 2.5in wide for small graphs, occasional hints, and historical notes.

the right column will be 5in wide for the main text.

However, the exercise set at the end of each section should have multicolumn capability so I can switch back and forth from single column to 2 or 3 columns.

How can I achieve this with or without the memoir book style?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome,

in its current state, the question is very very broad. I am thinking of a tabular environment to be used, then again a list. On the other hand, using marginpars might be best for your situation.

It is really hard to tell right now.

The section at the end, how is this supposed to look like? What kind of notes are there? It might be tackled with tabulars as well.

Can you be more verbose on your specific needs?
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.

Yes, it is broad. Right now I experimenting with memoir and your suggestions. On a small scale, it is looking good.
Thank you very much.

have a look at the Tufte-latex class. It's not a perfect fit for your need, but it is a good start.

Have a nice day
