Hi,
To view my document in LyX (Windows), I click the view button and it compiles a PDF. But it does this by opening multiple (around but not always 5) instances/windows of the same PDF file in Acrobat reader and is really annoying. Does anyone who how to stop this?
Thanks in advance

Multiple windows pop up when compiling PDFs
Hi joshlk,
Welcome to the board!
Additional to the »View« button there's also an »Update« button which compiles the source code again but doesn't open the PDF again.

Re: Multiple windows pop up when compiling PDFs
Hi,
This is useful but its a bit annoying as it wont let me update if the pdf file is currently opened in Acrobat. Do you have any other suggestions?
Many thanks, Josh

This is a known problem with acrobat. That's why other pdf viewers like sumatra or okular are popular in the TeX community.joshlk wrote:This is useful but its a bit annoying as it wont let me update if the pdf file is currently opened in Acrobat. Do you have any other suggestions?

Re: Multiple windows pop up when compiling PDFs
The problem isn't just with Adobe Acrobot. I am using Foxit reader, a lightweight pdf viewer for windows. When I try to update pdf I get:
! I can't write on file `XXX.pdf'.
Please type another file name for output
! Emergency stop.
<to be read again>
Is there any solution other than installing another pdf reader (i.e. Sumatra)?
