Location for automatically downloaded Packages

Post by Msonic »

Hi,

I am using TeXnicCenter 2.0 Alpha 4, and distribution is MikTeX, it seems MikTeX is very incompletely, during the first several runs, the TeXnicCenter 2.0 was always downloading packages from some server automatically. I am wonder where do those packages go after downloading?

And also another question, is any other distribution more completely than MikTex, since most of time I use TeXnicCenter 1.0 which has no automatic download function, if there is a package lacking, the compiling stops immediately.

The packages are not downloaded by TeXnicCenter (TXC), but installed by the automatic package installation mechanism of MiKTeX after download. Hence they are installed in the MiKTeX installation tree. I don't know where the corresponding archive files (*.cab,*.tar.lzma) are cached.

You can always do a complete installation by the MiKTeX Package Manager (MPM) to avoid the problem with TXC1 RC1. As an alternative you can try TeX Live. TeX Live 2012 has been released recently (8.7.2012).
