Hi there,
I successfully installed TeXnicCenter 1 Beta 7.01 under my admin account under Windows XP Home SP2. As I only work with a restricted account (i.e. without admin rights), TeXnicCenter shuts down right after starting it with a Windows error message and terminates the programme. This does not happen under my admin account. As a work around I tried to allow full rights in the security features of Windows XP for the TeXnicCenter folder in Program Files for my restricted account. Unfortunately, this does not work (as it does for LEd where the same problem appeared).
I would be very grateful for any hints how to avoid the crash of TeXnicCenter as I find a very useful editor. Thanks.

Give your account Administrative priviledges. Otherwise do not complain that it does not work as you would like for it work.

Thank you for your answer. If I understand you correctly, TeXnicCenter does only work with a full admin account. This is too bad, as Windows XP bears too many risks from viruses and trojans if run in full admin mode, and therefore should only be run in restricted mode. As there are also other LaTeX editors that do not require a full admin account, I am afraid that I have to switch to a different one. This is unfortunate, as I really like TeXnicCenter as an editor. I hope that one of the next versions will allow to be run under a restricted Windows account.

Please do not quote me directly. I do not know and at the moment I cannot test TeXniccenter under a non-admin account. I understand that TeXniccenter installs to C:\Program Files\TeXniccenter\,
There's something that can be done to help you, but I am not sure how to do it. Maybe editing the registry. I do not know for sure. I just thought why not run it as adminstrator and not have the problem that you have.
I am checking to find a solution,
http://www.toolscenter.org/help.html
but have not found anything so far. Only occurs to me by reading some of the help pages, to check if TeXniccenter is running in which compatibility mode like Windows 95/98, or in XP.

Re: Use of TeXnicCenter under restricted account Win XP
I have the same problem as Jambosala and it started in the same week (may 29th). Before, texniccenter (also beta 7.01) worked under my restricted account for several month. Directly before the problem appeared, I was logged in as administrator. Maybe some updates were installed which caused the problem. I spent a lot of time searching the web for a solution, but this site seems to be the only one discussing this problem. If there is somebody who checked out how to get texniccenter working under a restricted account, please let us know. I don't want to be always logged in with admin rights. If this problem isn't fixed, anybody who has the opportunity maybe should think about changing the system. kile in ubuntu is a very nice LaTeX editor as well (and similar to texniccenter) and ubuntu can do everything (and more) as windows - and you need admin/root rights only sometimes and give them only parts of the system (like one program or one shell).
