I have gone through some threads on this board. But still have no right answer.
I am totally new to LaTeX, and always use Word for text processing. However, I recently have a task to process a huge manuscript written in LaTeX. This means I must find a solution to work with this language. However, I don't want to spend much time to learn LaTeX, because I'm not good at programming and have very small possibility to use LaTeX after finishing this task.
So I would like to find an effective editor which is capable, to a large extent, to eliminate the efforts to learn coding and to provide a Word-like intuitive working envirnoment. The desired features are,
- Works in Windows.
- Word-like working environment, i.e. operations can be done with mouse and drop-down menus. I'm not comfortable with a lot of backslashes, and a clean writing space help me to concentrate on the text content.
- Can work with tables and figures.
- WYSIWYG or having a simultaneous preview window. I would like to know what the manuscript looks like when I am writing.
- Powerful in writing math equations because the manuscript is on physics.
- Can open and save LaTeX files, and also can save as PDF.
- Other features such as search, find/replace, compare documents, spell checker, track changes..., the more the better, but not necessary.
I have look into LyX a bit. It seems pretty good, but lacks the ability of real-time preview. Am I wrong?
