Forget Yap, use dviout

Post by Sebi »

I do not like the latest yap that comes with Miktex 2.5.
Yap has become extremely slow, with dvips ugly (the font rendering looks as ugly as Ghostscript), and programmed without obeying what the user needs (definitely no rotated text and color gradients within a dvi-previewer).

Therefore, I switched to dviout. You can find an instruction how to configure this powerful but fast previewer to work with Miktex at

hi.

i tried following the instructions posted under the link you mentioned... got stuck because the poster uses emacs and i'm using texnicenter. anybody now how to implement dviout in txc?

another question:
browsing the above mentioned pages i found this quote: "(Round-tripping between LaTeX and PDF is similar in principle, but it requires other tools.)"

i know that txc and yap provide round tripping. i would really like to avoid using dvi alltogether and stick to pdf format. does anybody know how to do round tripping with pdf and txc?
