Hello,
the TeXnicCenter's documentation says that TeXnicCenter tries to detect MikTeX and, indeed, it used to. But with MikTeX 2.7, it doesn't work. Is there a trick, a special directory where MikTeX should be installed, in order TeXnicCenter does detect MikTeX?
I need this because installed MikTeX 2.7 + TeXnicCenter 1 Beta 7.01 were installed on computers where students have only restricted rights and where customization they do is erased at each session (I'm not the administrator). So, the first time they use TeXnicCenter during their session, they can't browse the "Program Files" directory and have to enter the entire path to the tex related executables:
C:\Programm Files\MikTeX 2.7\miktex\bin
This is very annoying!
With previous versions of MikTeX and TeXnicCenter (I don't remember versions but I guess that MikTeX version was 2.6), students just had to accept that TeXnicCenter tries to to detect MikTeX and all went well...
Thanks in advance for any hint.

Re: How does TeXnicCenter detect MikTeX
I'm having the same problem. I used to use MikTex 2.5 + TeXnicCenter 1 Beta 7.01. Then I upgraded and downloaded MikTeX 2.7 (removing the 2.5 version first). Now when I run my .tex files, the first and only line in the output is "C:\Program Files\MikTex 2.5\miktex\bin\pdflatex.exeCannot execute the command.Error:The system cannot find the file spe..."
But when I check the bin folder, pdflatex.exe is there. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MikTex 2.7 about 4 times now. I've also tried compiling to .ps and .dvi, but these do not work either.
Any help would be great!
Thanks,
c

Re: How does TeXnicCenter detect MikTeX
I found a solution to the question I posted earlier, in case any one else has this problem.
You have to install MikTex 2.7 BEFORE you install Texniccenter. I couldn't find a way to point the existing Texniccenter to a newly installed MikTex folder. Maybe there's a way, but I couldn't find it. After installing Texniccenter, you can select the TeX distribution (MikTex folder) during the setup.

How does TeXnicCenter detect MikTeX
Hi eclatyee,
welcome to the LaTeX Community board!
We had a similar discussion some days ago, have a look at this topic. There's a link to a TeXnicCenter configuration video and a short description how to change the TeXnicCenter configuration after upgrading MiKTeX even by a wizard.
