@paul: In "my favorite" German typography forum, TNR also stands for readability. :) I think this is correct, imo. Although I have to say, I don't want to read it on any a4 page anymore. It's beyond overused. :evil:

I'd definitely recommend serif math over math set in sans serif.

Surely not -- Times New Roman is an inferior clone of Times, but even the latter is not recommended for most common uses -- it was designed for newspaper use (hence the name), with extremely narrow columns.

Absolutely. But if one is about to mix two typefaces, I'd always rather use sans serif for math, than another serif. Note: by "math" I mean only display math, not inline (which introduces another topic for discussion). Minion + Times (any kind of it) is bad :)
