Question bank and exam papers

Post by metric »

Hi,

Merry Christmas to all.

I plan to create a question bank, so that it becomes easy for me to prepare exam papers.

Need guidance about package that can help me get my work easily and efficiently.

Basically what I'm looking for is
  • A question bank (prefer to have info. about the question, like marks, difficulty level etc
  • Any method that will allow me pull question from the question bank (instead of copy pasting them in my exams sheet)
  • Guidance on as designing of exam sheet that will require minimum formatting.
Pl. note that the question bank will also contain some geometrical question and that will require me to include figures.

Thanks your continued support.

Have a fun filled 2011,

metric

Question bank and exam papers

Thanks a lot for a reply.

I tried to install AeB Builder, however the http://www.acrotex.net/builders/aebBuil ... pplication link is not working.

Just to make things more clear, 2 imp things that I'm looking for are
  • A package to make exam papers easily and efficiently. Exams will conducted offline on papers. So don't require the online feature of selecting answer(s) in the pdf files
    • How to create a Question bank and pull question to prepare the exam papers.

Thanks,
metric

Thanks, Metric, for your post. I forwarded your comments to Don Story. He will want to know about and fix the broken link. He usually replies quickly and I will forward his response to you.

I think Don's package will handle your needs. My use was a little different. I used some of his packages (exerquize, web....) to construct exams. (Don and I taught together for 30 years.) They were very helpful. Mostly, I used Don's package with Scientific WorkPlace because the latter program has an integrated computer algebra system that makes it possible to generate random instance exams from a single file. Don's newer bundle, the one you are interested in, uses a database of questions.

As far as I can tell, the link is working, I just tried it at http://www.acrotex.net/builders/aebBuilder/publish.htm
Press the Install button. Use Internet Explorer, not Firefox.

So Mac and Linux users are out of luck?

Frankly, I wouldn't trust software if those were the conditions for installing it, even in Windows! It shows the makers don't know what they're doing.

The TeX Catalogue Online has a section for quizzes and exams, but I haven't really tried any of these, you'll need to look through them yourself and see if anything is suitable.

hi,
Installed AeB Builderbuilder using, iexplorer, initially it showed some common lang. runtime error, however after i installed .net framework 2.0 (.net4 was already on my pc), the AeB Builder and AeB Exam Builder got installed. I can now try them. They also have eqexam package meant for creating exam papers.

Thanks for that TeX Catalogue Online link, I understand that using some of the packages I should be able to create question papers more efficiently.

However, any recommendation about any particular packages among them is welcome.

And yes, Have a great 2011 :)

Thanks,

Hello frabjous,

I should have mentioned in my last post on this thread another post located at (to which you also replied)
http://www.latex-community.org/forum/vi ... 45&t=10506,
where using distiller provided a correct solution and pdftex did not. Although some people did not have the difficulty I mentioned, another member confirmed the problem. I would like to see this problem fixed.

By the way, Don usually extends his packages so that they work with pdftex as (pdftex) features become available. Mostly, I use his packages with pdftex.

The problem mentioned in that other page only exists when the PDF is viewed with certain Adobe products.

Using Adobe products to solve problems that Adobe creates is not a recommendation for Adobe.
