Questions and discussions about the MPro Installation Guide

Holy crustaceans, I'm so excited to use Minion with LaTeX! Just have to find a day with a sufficiently long period of consecutive free time to install the stuff. Thanks so much!

And by the way, I checked the legality of the format conversion... :)

In the Western Fonts End User License Agreement at http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/legal/index.html, it says,
14.7.4 You may convert and install the font software into another format for use in other environments, subject to the following conditions: A computer on which the converted font software is used or installed will be considered as one of your Permitted Number of Computers. Use of the font software you have converted will be pursuant to all the terms and conditions of this agreement. Such converted font software may be used only for your own customary internal business or personal use and may not be distributed or transferred for any purpose, except in accordance with Section 4.4 of this agreement.
...where "Permitted Number of Computers" = 5

Questions and discussions about the MPro Installation Guide

Success! I can hardly contain my excitement, especially after finding that a ridiculous amount of typographic goodies---four types of figures (!), true small caps (a real rarity), etc.---perhaps only rivaled by Kp-fonts (or my ignorance), is supported.

My notes:

So I follow all the steps up to section 8, the Final Steps. I edit updmap.cfg, and get "access denied" when I try to save (I do have admin privileges). Indeed, at the top it warns not to edit the file. I search and find http://www.latex-community.org/forum/vi ... f=9&t=2281, and do what piticu says MikTeX says to do. And it works.

Also, the glyphtounicode URL provided in the Miscellaneous notes section doesn't seem to work. I used http://pdftex.sarovar.org/misc/glyphtounicode.zip, which I learned of from http://www.tug.org/TUGboat/Articles/tb2 ... -fonts.pdf. All good.

Thanks!
John

Thank you for the feedback!

I have neither heard of this issue before nor have any clue how this came to be. Can't help you there, sorry. But I'm glad that you found a way.

Thank you, I corrected the path.

Questions and discussions about the MPro Installation Guide

Post by thomasTC »

Dear Montag,

Thanks for an excellent guide, which I used with great joy and success in the last month for installation of MyriadPro and MinionPro - your step-by-step guide is extremely appreciated.

Unfortunately, today, when I attempted to apply the methods of your guide once again - now on a different computer - I realized that your premonition that the resources for MyriadPro might disappear have materialized. Specifically, the link http://faq.ktug.or.kr/wiki/uploads/MyriadProAR7.zip is now dead. In fact, it seems the entire http://ktug.or.kr site might be dead.

Is there any chance, that this .zip file might be available from a different mirror? It would be a shame if this would put an end to your otherwise very foolproof guide!

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

no problem. Glad my guide helped you with setting it up. :)

I uploaded the .zip-file to zippyshare.com: http://www3.zippyshare.com/v/34771567/file.html

Hi Montag,

Thanks for reuploading the files on github and here on the forum - it was much appreciated, and I have now succesfully followed your "recipe" at my work-computer as well. This is great - thanks a bunch!

Sorry about my very long reply-time. Best,
Thomas

Questions and discussions about the MPro Installation Guide

Hello,

In order to use mpro in my thesis, I followed this guide and all worked well (I even did it twice):
http://www.latex-community.org/forum/vi ... 415#p39693

But with this simple example:
\documentclass{article}
\pdfmapfile{=MyriadPro.map}

\usepackage{MinionPro}
\begin{document}
test
\end{document}

I get this error message trying to pdfLatex it:

Questions and discussions about the MPro Installation Guide

Post by mgulin »

I did everything by the tutorial, but when I tried to execute following simple "program"

\documentclass[a4paper]{article}

\usepackage{MinionPro}

\begin{document}
Just another test.
\end{document}

it couldn't compile with following error:

! LaTeX Error: File `MinionPro.sty' not found.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Best regards,
Marko.

EDIT: I finally managed to make it work. Here are some of my observations:
Step 5. If you're using 64-bit MiKTeX version, contents of lcdf\bin directory (you get this after you unpack lcdf-typetools-w32.tar.bz2, and following this lcdf-typetools-w32.tar) have to be placed in C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.X\miktex\bin\x64\
Step 8. After I did 8.7 nothing happened, i.e., an error has occured when I tried to use MinionPro. I did Refresh FNDB (in Settings (Admin)) one more time, and now it works. I've tested this on two computers, both of them have a working MinionPro.sty now.

Montag, if you're reading this, thank you for this great tutorial!!!

Thank you very much, mgulin!

Your steps worked in my case, too!

I followed your additional advises regarding to step 5 and 8. Then I got the error messaage:
miktex-makemf: The MinionPro-Regular-Base-aa source file could not be found. Font MinionPro-Regular-Base-aa at 597 not found
==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced!

After this, I followed the steps in 8.7 in cmd Console.

Now, it works!
