Do I need the ttf-files for this Frutiger installation?

Post by Montag »

Hello,

I'd love to use the Frutiger font in combination with the Palatino clones or the Garamond clone which are available for MikTeX/LaTeX.
I never really thought about it because I didn't know it was possible, but as I came across an old topic which linked to this (fontinst-package) and this package (I don't know what that is exactly), I thought I'd give a try.
But after a few moments, the phrase 'ttf' caught my eye. So do I need the ttf-files for the installation of this corelpak version of Frutiger? I really have no real clue but I'm leaning towards "Yes, I do". Although I read this wiki-entry, I'm still lost with all the acronyms and what exactly is needed to make it work, but my experience tells me it won't work because the .pfb-files are missing.

(right?)

Frutiger is only available (legitimately) as a fairly expensive commercial font as far as I know. You’re going to acquire some version of the font to use it with LaTeX; it certainly isn’t going to be available for free on CTAN. If you had the TTF or OTF you could convert no doubt; and I think those packages provide everything you need to get them working in LaTeX except the fonts themselves.

I could be wrong but I’d guess that “Corelpak” refers to some kind of collection of fonts you could purchase from Corel. (Quite possibly no longer available.)

Yes, sure, I would be going to acquire the font files legitimately if I wanted to actually own this commercial font.
