VERY basic question

Post by spk64 »

Brand new LaTex user - Ph.D. prog. Professor requiring use. Downloaded MikteX, TRYING to use TeXnic Center, but asking for the full path of directory where exectables are for configuration. :?: I have tried every possible combination - no luck. In what file are the executables? Anybody know?

If your installation is a standard one, it is
C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\miktex\bin
I'm surprised that TeXnic Center setup does not know about MiKTeX. Didn't you install it *before* MiKTeX?

I did not find it until after installation, but I will try this. Thanks for the help.

It worked, so now maybe I can actually learn how to do this! Thanks again.

I had this same problem. I had downloaded and installed MiKTeX 2.7 before downloading and installing TeXnic Center. I've read that it should have detected it but it never did for me. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling TeXnic Center.

Thanks for asking this question.

VERY basic question

As far as I remember MiKTeX 2.4 was the last version that was auto-detected by TeXnicCenter. This version was installed in a more general path than later versions.

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\MiKTeX
During the installation process of MiKTeX 2.7, you could give that path and have MiKTeX installed there. The executables then can be found in the according subdirectory.

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\MiKTeX\miktex\bin
So, the detection may work if you (re)install MiKTeX 2.7 in that path and restart the profile wizard of TeXnicCenter (Alt+F7). Note that you should have installed at least Ghostscript to get the build profile "LaTeX => PS => PDF".
