Want to highlight and strikethrough text... using WinEdt

Post by ridleywalker »

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is a Latex or a WinEdt question, or both.

I would like to be able to highlight text in different colours and strikethrough text for editting purposes, i.e. I would like to present an author whose work I am editing with a pdf file with highlighted text and strikethroughs for changes that I am proposing. I've used these features in, ahem, MS Word, but never in Latex. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I've done some google searches but only come up with highlighting in the .txt file, which is not what I'm after. I am using WinEdt.

Thanks in advance,
Louise

The 'changes' package seems to do that. It is part of MiKTeX.

Sorry for being obtuse about this.... it would appear that I have the changes package installed, but I couldn't find any of the keywords "changes", "highlight" or "overstrike" in the MiKTeX help doc (and google didn't come through for me either)..... could you tell me if these are menu items, macros (which I've never used), or some other feature?

Thanks,
Louise

Of course, you couldn't find anything about the 'changes' package, nor any package: MiKTeX help is only about the MiKTeX system, essentially the binaries. I don't know which editor you are using. WinEdt has in its help menu a submenu called LaTeX doc which gives you access to the packages documentation. Anyway, since MiKTeX 2.6, you have the mthelp command utility : just type the command line mthelp --view changes (there's a file in german and one in english - I don't know which one will be opened). This can be easily transformed into a macro used by your editor.

I'm trying to do the same thing in TexShop for the Mac (OS 10.4.11), but unfortunately I cannot find anything in it's help, or any of the online manuals I have looked through. Any suggestions of what command to use, and/or what package plus command to use? Thanks.
