Kile ⇒ HOWTO: Run Kile on Windows natively. Works great!

NO andLinux is involved.

Just the "KDE on Windows" official project.

Kile is available only in the unstable release KDE 4.2.95. It's not available in any other releases of KDE on Windows. So you have to select that specific release while installing KDE in order to get Kile.

1) Download and run the installer.
2) When reaching the "Download Server Setting" window, choose winkde.org.

3) Choose unstable 4.2.95

4) Check Kile and Okular.

The installer will download and install 70 MBs worth of packages.

5) Configure Kile to use Okular as PDF Viewer. It doesn't lock opened PDF files. This way you can run PDFLaTeX while Okular opening the PDF file. Okular will instantly refresh the PDF. It's almost instant preview. Sumatra PDF does that too but Okular is a better viewer. Just Choose "Okular Unique" as follows:

It works great.

Alternatively, you can use the installer to install from local directory. I've put the installer along with all needed packages in this zip file.

Thank you. This method works great. Writing LaTeX becomes much easier with Kile and it does not use more resources compare to other editors.

I found out a way to enable real time spell-checking in Kile.
1. Follow the installation described above.
2. Run the KDE installer once again.
3. Uncheck "Skip basic setting pages".
4. When installer suggests to choose the version change it to the last stable.
5. Make no changes in packages included. !Do not uncheck anything!
6. When installation is completed run Kile. In "Tools" menu there will be a checkable item "Automatic spell checking".
7. In case of any problems reinstalling always helps.

PS: in KDE for windows there are few application worth mentioning, not saying of TeX related discussed above: KRuler (screen ruler) and standard Linux desktop games.

If it doesn't exist on Linux, it doesn't exist on Windows. The version of Kile in KDE for Windows is actually old, it's 2.1 beta 1.

I can't even get any spell-checking working. Clicking on Tools > Spelling does nothing even though aspell is properly installed.

You mean that after following the algorithm above you still have not got the menu item \Tools\Automatic Spell Checking?
For me it worked out pretty OK.

I guess in-line spell checking comes with new version of Kate and I do not know much about its availability on Linux. My friends using university (UiB) PC with Fedora have not got it so far.

I cannot say it works excellent, but for sure it helps in writing.

Excellent. I'm curious whether I can get this in linux. Can you check the version? It doesn't exist in Version 2.0.83, which I have installed, and is the latest in the Ubuntu Karmic repositories. Hopefully the Lucid repos have a newer one.
