MikTeX creates no files

Post by burgstaa »

Hello!
I am running MikTeX 2.8 with TexnicCenter 1 RC on a Win7 64 bit machine.

My problem is the following:
when i compile my document, no pdf file is created. i just get this message:
"pdflatex.exe: GUI framework cannot be initialized."

i tried to reinstall both, miktex and texniccenter as admin, and running the editor as admin, result is the same.

has anyone any ideas?

MikTeX creates no files

Post by burgstaa »

wow, thanks, now it looks like its working.

i followed the remedy as given on the miktex website:
MiKTeX 2.8 Issues wrote:LaTeX terminates with "GUI framework cannot be initialized" if invoked from TeXnicCenter (1.0 Stable Release Candidate 1). This happens when a missing package needs to be installed and the pop-up window cannot be displayed.

Remedy: start MiKTeX Options and choose either Yes or No (but not "Ask me first") for the option "Install missing packages on-the-fly".

Unfortunately this remedy does not work with either Texnic Center nor Winedt (using Sweave).
Any suggestions?

Respect! A new record time from registration up to the first post contrary to the Board Rules (especially Section 1.5).

The remedy works only for TeXnicCenter (TXC) and its efficiency is proved. It is very likely that you are doing something wrong.

Best regards and welcome to the board

I'm having a problem with Miktex2.8, TeXnic Center 1.0 on Windows 2007 running Sweave.
I followed many suggestions on the internet to remedy this problem such as
* copy the Sweave.sty in a searchable path for Miktex (in this case tex/latex/misc, or in the folder with the tex files, or in other places)
* using the published remedy of choosing "yes" for MikTex settings "install packages on the fly"
* using MikTex package manager to install all needed packages
Nevertheless the following error message is consistently produced (e.g. with Leisch's Sweave example 1):
"GUI framework cannot be initialized" right after calling on fancyvrb.sty.
LaTeX Result: 0 errors, 0 warnings, 0 bad boxes.

I am at a loss what to do. Does anybody have a suggestion?

Thanks!

I also had this problem. Although the 'standard' solution says that it is possible to avoid the issue by selecting "Yes" or "No" for "Install missing packages on-the-fly", I found that the only answer that removes the problem is "No". This has also been reported at http://www.opensource-archive.org/showt ... p?t=174692

Thank you. I'll try this again.
Another solution is to avoid compiling the tex file through TeXnic Center altogether and run "pdflatex filename.tex" on the command line instead.

TeXworks is a recommendable editor. It is included in the MiKTeX 2.8 distribution and installable via MPM.
