I have never seen the parenthesis around a bar in particle physics or in basic versions of the standard models (but I'm not a particle physicist. Could you link to an article with them in to give me an idea as to what they really should look like?

Also, the mhchem package allows you to add text above other symbols, so that might help...


\usepackage[version=3]{mhchem}
\ce{$\overset{\mathrm{(-)}}{p}^0_S$}

might give a rough starting point.

It's not a very common notation, but i see it from time to time.
I don't have time right now to hunt down an example, but I'll keep my eyes open and post back if find one.
