I can't even open any tex files without it crashing, or save any new ones =/

On my system (XP, 32bit) I can't comprehend this issue. In fact I have been able to open entire projects generated with an older version. But by now I haven't done any exhaustive testing that comprises a complete work-flow for creating a document.

Still the same error even after restart. The same thing also pops up if I try to save a new .tex file, whether or not it's replacing an old one. Is there any way to debug? Does it work for anyone else's vista?

This seems to be an x64 related issue. I'll look into it.

TeXnicCenter 2.0 Alpha 1 - Issues

I have Windows 7 Pro x64.
On 22.10.09 I compiled TeXnicCenter 2.0.1009. It worked but after a restart it was crashing all the time.

TeXnicCenter 2 alpha (2.0.1012.0) crashes too. I don't see a window, it only appears temporary in the task manager. The eventlog states:
exception code: 0xc0000005
offset: 0x00060e72

You're welcome to provide a patch if you can fix the problem.

Hey,
hm, I don't even know why it ran the first time but not after a restart .
I saw your bug entry for Vista x64. I think this problem is related to that, so I'll wait for the x64 support. ;)

I cannot reproduce the problem on a freshly installed Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit. Could you provide the exact steps that result in a crash? Also, I need the following information:
  • Your TeXnicCenter language settings,
  • locale (i.e. language) of your operating system.

After installation I execute TeXnicCenter. In the task manager I see its entry for a few seconds, no window appears. After disappearing I can see an exception logged in the event log:

OS language is German.

Well, at least we use the same version. However, I still cannot reproduce your problem. If you have a possibility to debug the application, please do so. You could also try to update to MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 and/or delete the following files from TXC's directory:
  • mfc90u.dll
  • msvcp90.dll
  • msvcr90.dll
  • Microsoft.VC90.CRT.manifest
  • Microsoft.VC90.MFC.manifest
then install the Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package and post the results.
