Configuring TeXnicCenter with MikTeX

Post by apm »

I downloaded both TeXnicCenter and MikTeX (the complete version of MikTeX), and when I attempt to compile a TeX document, I get a prompt to enter the directory of the package repository. In which folder is the package repository? I installed MikTeX in my Program Files folder, but it seems that every time I specify one of the folders in the MikTeX directory as a package repository, I get an error in the TeXnicCenter telling me that the directory I specified is not a package repository.

Alternatively, when I select "download packages from the internet," I get an *empty* list of servers to choose from.

Does anyone know how I can set up TeXnicCenter to work with MikTeX? Any help would be appreciated. :)

The setup of TeXnicCenter (TXC) for work with MiKTeX seems to be OK. It's more an issue of your MiKTeX settings especially concerning a valid package repository. The empty list of repository indicates some difficulties with your internet connection. Check that especially with regard to proxy settings.

Otherwise, if you say you downloaded the whole MiKTeX distribution I assume that you used the MikTeX Net Installer thus there somewhere on your machine is a directory that contains the whole system. Start the Net Installer again and follow the instructions up to that point where you are requested to give a directory for saving the files in. Since the installer remembers the directory it should be the same as in the first run when you downloaded the system. This is your valid package repository.
