Spacing between columns in the index.

Post by Stevie Hair »

Hi there
I'm using makeindex, but it doesn't put any spacing between the columns of index entries. In one case the columns even overlap slightly. Any ideas on how to rectify this?

Stevie

Spacing between columns in the index.

As in a document with two columns this space is determined by the length \columnsep. Modify this length till it fits your needs. But it seems more to be a matter of hyphenation.

Best regards

Thorsten, can you provide a sample entry of changing the column separation to add more space between the index columns? Everything I have tried is not working and generates about 20 errors.

Thank you,

And it seems that you want others to guess what you tried. Simply add the modification right before starting the index.

Code: Select all

\setlength{\columnsep}{1cm}

I didn't want to embarrass myself by putting the wrong code up for everyone to see, since I was pretty sure it was incorrect. I am not much beyond a LaTeX novice.

But thanks!

There's no reason for embarrassment. We all once have been beginners. But code is always better than descriptions and makes the solution to an issue easier.
