Viewers for PDF, PS, and DVI ⇒ Acrobat Reader forgets everything
Acrobat Reader forgets everything
Hi all,
I imagine this issue has already been encountered, but I can't seem to find any relevant discussion on here through the search mechanism. Basically, I compile my latex and have my nice pdf, i start reading my pdf then decide to change something, so i edit my tex file and recompile to get an updated pdf, but Acrobat Reader resets all my settings in the viewer so that the pdf file is back to Page 1 of my document, etc... This is extremely frustrating, especially if the pdf file is like 100 pages long and each time you compile it takes you back to page 1. Anyone else have this problem? I didn't have it with Reader v7, now I'm using v9.
Thanks,
BoB

Open the document in Reader.
In the toolbar, go to Edit -> Preferences -> In the Categories menu, select Documents ->
Under Open Settings, select the "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" check box.
See if that helps.

Re: Acrobat Reader forgets everything
Hi,
I'm having the same problem.
I'm not sure if the solution posted by trip helped the original poster, but it unfortunately did not help me. I am using Vista + Winedt(v5.5) + Adobe Reader(v9) and although if i close a pdf, and then reopen it, it does restore the previous view, if I recompile that pdf before reopening, it does not.
The last time I used latex, I was using XP, an older version of Winedt, but most importantly i think, adobe reader v7, then everything was fine (as the OP suggests). I also remember attempting to upgrade adobe reader to v8, and finding it no longer worked.
I have tried to use reader v7, but as well as not playing nice with vista, it didn’t help the issue.
Does anyone have this 'pdf view restore' feature working with adobe reader v9?

Hi all,
I recently upgraded to Adobe Reader 9, and my problem is similar to ferretguy's. The solution by tripwire45 isn't working for me either.
With older versions I had no problem as Adobe Reader stored the exact settings how that documnent was last open (page, zoom, etc.), so once I recompiled the pdf, I could simply hit ALT+Left and was exactly where left!

Re: Acrobat Reader forgets everything
Hi,
This problem has frustrated me profusely, why can't they just get it right? I trashed Acrobat Reader 9 and installed PDF X-Change Viewer instead, because it was able to restore the document view properly. I've since switched to Vista 64 (with a new laptop) and PDF X-Change Viewer 2.0421 and even it hasn't been able to restore the document view properly anymore. I don't know if the problem is with Vista or the new viewer, but I can't find the slightly older viewer version that worked.
Edit: I think the problem may lie with WinEdt. LyX seems to open the pdf viewer in such a way as to restore the previous document view.

Re: Acrobat Reader forgets everything
I gave up trying to get Acrobat to work, but have had success with SumatraPDF. There is a special version made for TeX syncing: http://william.famille-blum.org/softwar ... index.html
Give it a go.
EDIT: I use x64 Vista too

Superb, thanks Quattro. The SumatraPDF contributors are lifesavers.

Hi there,
i am having the same problem. so i gave the last posting a go and downloaded and installed the SUMATRApdf viewer. I have one stupid question now. How do I tell TeXnicCenter to actually use SUMATRA instead of Adobe?
Thanks
Hendrik

Acrobat Reader forgets everything
There is a blog that may help [1]. You will find instructions how to configure several editors with the SumatraPDF viewer.derhenna wrote:How do I tell TeXnicCenter to actually use SUMATRA instead of Adobe?
