Need an Advice

Post by pooja »

Hi everyone,
I've recently heard of Latex and presently I'm trying out some applications.
I downloaded and installed MikTex 2.6 and TexnicCenter on my Windows Xp desktop computer.
Will they work on my Windows Vista Home Premium laptop?
Can I transfer mikTex's pakages from the desktop PC to the laptop through a USB pen and then complete the installation?

Basically what I really need is just a sort of Freeware/open source Latex plugin or add on for word processors. Is there anything like that? Could u just advice me something?

To be honest, I'm starting to like Latex but I'd like an editor that allows me to see in real time how the page is looking. Is there anything like that? I've heard some people mention LEd.
How is it, compared to TexnicCenter? Do I need to install any other application in order to view the files I produce?

Thank u all.

I previously replied to you on another post. I mentioned Lyx, if you really prefer the word processor approach to document preparation; but I recommend trying to persevere with TeXnicCenter.

Thank you for your reply, pumpkinegan!
I didn't save that page on my Favourites so later on I lost track of that post and decided to post a fresh question.
Uhmm...you say it's better to stick on with TexnicCenter? Yeah...I'm starting to get used to it. Does Lyx allow you to type mathematical expressions within a line like TeXnicCenter does? For instance when you write $ a^2+b^2=c^2 $ in the middle of a line? Or does it stick the equation like a picture?
From that point of view I really REALLY like TeXnicCenter.

Hey, one last thing. Do u know about anything like Aurora 2.1 tool used to enter Latex expression in MS Word ? I'm looking for something similar but open source or freeware to use with Open Writer.
Thank you.
