Problems Installing Tex Live 2023

Post by Paul R »

I use OS High Sierra 10.13 — so I followed the Unix instructions given here: https://tug.org/mactex/mactex-unix-download.html

The installation completed with only three "unessential" packages failing to install. But now I see no visible program anywhere — nothing in the Applications folder, nothing in the Downloads folder. I can't even find the files that were supposedly downloaded (a process that took about 8 hours, by the way).

I have used LaTeX for ten years. I would like to continue, but this installation has me quite lost. Any help would be appreciated.

Problems Installing Tex Live 2023

P.S. I found the folder with the hundreds of little files. I also forgot to mention that when I was done using Terminal, I also downloaded the TeXDist-2023 package, as instructed. So that's not the problem.

But I have found no Graphical User Interface (GUI) files. There is nothing in my Applications folder. :(

Hi Paul,

did you try the Launchpad and type "TeX"? It should show the TeXshop editor, which comes with MacTeX.

Ah, I see, you are using a Mac OS X version just below the supported versions and therefore chose the general Unix install instead of the MacTeX installation.

Then you may need to install an editor, either TeXworks (I like that very much) or TeXshop (very good, I use it since on newest Mac OS X TeXworks is not officially verified and cannot be started).
