Problem with yap.exe after installing latest Miktex

Post by mmhubbard »

I have installed the latest Miktex 2.9, and now yap.exe will not work. It will not work on any .dvi file. Here is a MWE of a file that compiles but can't be viewed.

Code: Select all

documentclass{article}

\begin{document}
This is a test of yap.exe.
\end{document}
When I try to view the output from Texniccenter or if I double-click yap.exe from the folder, I get the following window

MiKTeX encountered an internal error.

index="4294967295"

I've tried replacing yap.exe from the portable version of Miktex, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the package miktex-yap-bin-x64-2.9 from the Miktex console.

Miktex is being run as

Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?

My original post should say that Miktex is being run as administrator.

Hi!

No idea yet. Do you have any log file?

On the other hand, TeXnicCenter is not really maintained since several years. Would you like to try another editor, with a built-in PDF previewer, side-by-side with source code? I think TeXstudio and Texmaker are very good LaTeX editors on Windows too. I prefer the slim and fast editor TeXworks though, but that one doesn't have so many features (that I don't need anyway) but runs excellent for me. It may be possible that MiKTeX has installed it already, perhaps check and give it a try.

Problem with yap.exe after installing latest Miktex

HI Stefan,

I was able to get it working. I had the AutoAdmin parameter set to True "t" in the miktex.ini file. Once I changed it back to "?" everything started working again. The problem had nothing to do with Texniccenter. I couldn't even execute yap.exe in a standalone fashion.

Thanks,
Mike

But where is the miktex.ini file?
I searched the whole installation but could not find it?

These are misleading solutions:
There is no such file as miktex.ini. Ironically the latex admin acknowledges this FALSE solution as a solution.
Yes, we all know that these are free software. But it does not mean handling it irresponsibly.
