Best PDF viewer

Post by Hafney »

Hi,

I'm at the end of my rope with adobe acrobat. What is the best pdf viewer to use with Latex? In particular, I'm using LyX on Windows. Any guidance will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Best PDF viewer

Hi Hafney,

welcome to the board!

The Acrobat Reader is probably the most used, so when a document should be published I would check it with the Acrobat Reader, finally.

Though for development a quicker, ligter reader supporting both forward and inverse search would be a good choice, such as Sumatra PDF.

I strongly suggest Adobe Reader 9 (nine). Not X.
After I tried to accomodate to the X version for about5-6 days, I re-installed the old version. Its customizable tool bars are just the thing I need, whereas version X does not ofter the same (unless I'm mistaken) and looks kind of horrible with Windows 7 classic's design (which I use).

I second Stefan's suggestion. When still writing use Sumatra since it automatically updates the pages (as the only viewer I know of on Windows!!!). In the end check it with Adobe Reader, just to make sure everything is fine.

Thanks very much for the replies. I changed to Sumatra and it's been a breeze. It's light, fast and updates flawlessly. I tried PDF-Exchange Viewer and Foxit, but they had the same problems updating as acrobat 10. Thanks for your feedback.
