File missing: 'pdftexconfig'

Post by FrankvanCaspel »

I have performed a complete installation of ProTeXt (including TeXnicCenter) on a university network-computer. All individual systems seem to be working.

However, if - in TeXnicCenter - I try to build a DVI-file from:
\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
Hello possible world!
\end{document}
an error occurs and no output is generated. The error reads as follows:
! I can't find file 'pdftexconfig'.
1.7 \input pdftexconfig

Please type another input file name
! Emergency stop.
1.7 \input pdftexconfig

No pages of output.
I have tried searching for the file in the installation folders, but because these are network-PC's no automated search is possible (files not indexed). Can anyone tell me why pdftexconfig is necessary and where it should be?

FYI: If I try to output directly to PDF it does work - the file is created - but I get a warning:
pdfTeX warning: (file pdftex.map): cannot open font map file
] (Hallo.aux) )
Is this in any way related?
