I'm trying to use newfile.sty and find myself unable to define a macro that contains the writeverbatim environment.

For example, LaTeX works fine on this file:

\documentclass[12pt]{report}
\usepackage{newfile}

\newoutputstream{charax}
\openoutputfile{\jobname.drp}{charax}

\begin{writeverbatim ...

I'm writing a simple set of LaTeX macros for formatting the scripts of plays and have run into a problem. Suppose that Hamlet has a speech that runs from one page to the next. The page on which the speech begins should have the usual formatting

HAMLET
Blah blah ...
Blah blah ...

and the page on ...

I've had problems downloading and installing MiKTeX 2.6.

1. The update program fails with the message

The operation could not be completed for the following reason:
FTP: Couldn't retrieve (RETR) the specified file

It failed in the same way on several sites.
