The solution is to go to 'Text styple' after right click on 'selected' text. Then go to 'customize'.
This is pretty obscure. To me style and size are not the same thing. At least size control is there. Choice of 'sizes' is relatively crude, but good enough ...
This would work for footnotes too ...

In 'lyx' using 'ps2pdf' option evades the problem. The 'dvi' options also work. Problem appears to be related to 'pdLatex' ...

So in the context of 'lyx' I found a work around ... use one of the other viewing options on offer in 'Documents' menu. The two div options and 'ps2pdf' as will as plain 'postscript' work. 'ps2pdf' looks best.

I'm having this same problem with eps files.
I'm trying to move lyx document from Linux to eps. I get this error when I try to view a document containing an eps image. This image worked fine on Linux. I ran 'eps2eps' on it and it still doesn't work.
The error is coming from latex not lyx directly ...

The glitch I have is that when ever lyx runs latex, it gets "cannot determine graphic size error". I'm using eps files so size determination should be easy.
I even tried images that used to work on Linux (I'm trying to get going on windows 10).
