For anyone else who may encounter a similar problem, I found this information to be very helpful.
Essentially, starting with a clean install of MikTeX, and installation of the MusixTeX package downloaded directly from the Werner-Icking Music Archive, rather than allowing MikTeX to install its own ...

Re: Desperation setting in
I like what I've seen of Lilypond's capabilities, and IIRC it can be interfaced to LaTeX (assuming the system is working properly, but at present I am obliged to produce pdf scores using other software then integrate them into documents using the \includepdf{} command) but I'm not sure how simple it ...

Re: Desperation setting in
Thanks. I am trying to get a MusixTeX installation set up specifically to engrave facsimiles of early music sources notated using neumes and mensural notation forms but I'm afraid the complexity (latest problem seems to be fonts) seems to be a bit beyond me.

Desperation setting in
Having seen what TeX is capable of, and having tried to get a specialised system working, I am now seriously considering hiring someone to install a working system for me. Has anyone heard of a software engineer with the necessary experience, preferably in the NE Vermont area of the USA?
Thank you

Font problem
In the process of trying to get MusixTeX working, I am having a problem with fonts. I have followed the instructions given in the MusixWin.pdf (which describe installation under MikTeX 2.1, does it matter that I am using 2.5?)

I am trying to reach a point at which I can use MikTeX to engrave music. Since I have been unable to make sense of the abc package by Enrico Gregorio, I have been able to obtain very acceptable results by generating scores using a non-LaTeX program, but now I want to produce more specialized output ...

re: my signature, that was on my other computer. Unfortunately, I am obliged to use the more antiquated hardware for TeXing. The older computer also runs Ubuntu, but is not equipped to get online, so adding the TeXLive package is not an option for me.

ps2epsi.exe - what does it do, where can I get it?
I have been having another go at getting Professor Gregorio's abcPlus musical notation package going (it seems Prof. Gregorio doesn't use Windows). I have managed to isolate a problem with the ps2epsi.exe utility, but cannot determine why it is not working.
I have checked that it is located in a ...
