Re: Paragraph is ignored in output PDF file.

I understand... If your document class is "article", just add the following lines to your document's preamble (the User's Guide should help if you don't know how to do this):

\setcounter{secnumdepth}{4}
\setcounter{tocdepth}{4}

and use the "paragraph" entry from the menu similar to "subsubsection ...

Paragraph is ignored in output PDF file.

I guess the "paragraph" you inserted wasn't the kind of paragraph you were thinking of but an environment . Just hit "Return" for a new "ordinary" paragraph.

From the Lyx User's Guide, chapter 3.3 Paragraph Environments:

The paragraph environments correspond to the various begin{environment ...

Bibliography

The natbib package is included in the texlive-latex-base (2007-10) package which is part of the TeX Live collection, see http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/tex/texlive-latex-base

Is it possible that you still use teTeX which is outdated and therefore has been replaced by TeX Live?

Re: Mathdesign & Garamond

Hi balfonsi and clueless,

I'm not sure if balfonsi's instructions will work. I also installed the URW Garamond No. 8 some months ago and I took some additional steps:

1. The place of the font files (metrics, etc.): I don't think extracting the files to \windows\fonts will work. LaTeX only searches ...

Why type 3 fonts with \usepackage[T1]{fontenc}?

The standard "Computer Modern" fonts have no free "European" Type 1 equivalent for your T1 font encoding. Possible alternatives are the "CM-Super" or "Latin Modern" package. After "CM-Super" is properly installed the Type 1 fonts will automatically be used. For using "Latin Modern" you have to call ...

Re: Bibliography

It's not a problem of JabRef. You have to choose or create an appropriate BibTeX style for your document. That's a .bst file. http://wiki.lyx.org/BibTeX/BibTeX offers some short introductions.

For some ready-made styles, look at http://www.cs.stir.ac.uk/~kjt/software/latex/showbst.html Seems to me ...

Lyx Installer gets stuck

Sorry, no new suggestions from me... I'm really helpless. I just compiled an old Lyx file with the new version and everything is fine.

All what I can say is that my MikTeX system is up-to-date and working perfectly with TeXnicCenter and WinEdt. Imagemagick already was installed prior to the Lyx ...

Re: Lyx Installer gets stuck

I guess it's because you tried to install a release candidate (Lyx 1.5rc1-31-05-2007) and not the actual stable version (1.4.4-5) for Windows.

Re: Custom-Bib with TexnicCenter

brad,

don't try to use TeXnicCenter. As klumpp explained, just open a DOS shell (also known as command shell) and run "latex makebst.ins" and "latex makebst.tex". I'm not sure if the .ins and .tex suffixes are really necessary but it should work. The command prompt window can be opened by entering ...
