The width of a table is largely determined by the number and width of the columns. Column width is set automatically to match the width of the data, or you can specify column with the "align" argument to the xtable command (see help(xtable) for details).
If that's not doing it, I'd have to play ...

Table Placement Problem not solved by common Approaches
:D Thank you, localghost. That's one to keep in my bag of tricks.
Sometimes only a special knack does the trick. I echo only the relevant part of your code.

Table Placement Problem not solved by common Approaches
I'm having recurrent trouble with the placement of a tables in documents. The case is when I need a table to appear within a particular section or subsection that contains little else. Often the table floats outside the section. I've tried using the [H] placement option in the float package and ...

Re: glossaries | Package not found, but installed
Thanks for the suggestion. I did as you suggested and kspewhich won't return a path for glossaries.sty, unless I run kpsewhich from the directory in the Tex Live tree where glossaries.sty is located. I've run texhash and that did not fix the problem. What should I try next? I'm still very new to ...

glossaries | Package not found, but installed
Does anyone have an idea why I'd get the compiling error message "'glossaries.sty' not found" when Tex Live says that it is installed? The path to it appears to be appropriate (/usr/local/texlive/2011/texmf-dist/tex/latex/glossaries/base/glossaries.sty) and I'm not having trouble with other packages ...

Local Installation of Class Files
I'm using the Harvey Mudd problem-set document class (hmcpset.cls) for my statistics homework and, because it isn't in the repository, I have to have a copy of the file "hmcpset.cls" in the same as my tex document. Like many people, I have a separate directory for each tex document, and for me this ...

Re: glossaries | Integration into TeXShop
I'm also struggling to make glossaries work. I tried several packages including glossary and glossaries, and settled on the glossary function built into the memoir class. That requires running MakeIndex from the command-line, as I can't figure out how to TeXShop to specify that MakeIndex should be ...

memoir | Glossary with Illustrations
Hello,
I am new to LaTeX and working on a regional flora, a book that will identify and describe plants. Botanical nomenclature requires a glossary with illustrations for many terms. I've been trying to create the glossary using the function provided by the memoir class, but I'm having difficulty ...
