You should create a subdirectory dictionaries and put the files there.

Re: Where do Dictionaries go for TeXworks in TeXLive?

In TeXworks see under Help > Settings and Resources... (the default for this in TeX Live is %USERPROFILE%\.texliveYEAR\texmf-config\texworks).

tlmgr missing in texlive

The version of TeX Live at TUG is the version of it. It is developed there. This is the same TeX Live as in your distribution, only more up-to-date and packaged differently with its own package manager (to add, remove and also update packages - distros don't update TeX Live between releases, AFAIK ...

tlmgr missing in texlive

If you are using TeX Live packaged by Ubuntu, then you should use the package manager from that distro. If you want tlmgr, then you have to install TeX Live version distributed by TUG.

Re: tlmgr error in TexLive 2010

All is fine, tlpkg/backups/*.tar.xz are just backups files, so you can restore the previous version in case of a bad package update.

Re: Installing TeX Live from source

You don't have to be a root to install TeX Live. In fact probably the simplest thing to do is to make a local, portable TL installation with packages you need and copy it over to the server. All you need then is to put the directory with binaries on the PATH.

Installing TeX Live from source

The best place to ask about building process is TeX Live mailing list. But I wonder why do you need to build from source?

tlmgr error in TexLive 2010

The error message given earlier in this thread has nothing to do with texlive-docindex package, it was about two missing files from the xits package. Dunno, why they were missing, but if that was the only problem, I wouldn't worry too much. After the update, the new version of xits should be ...

Installing TeX Live 2010 from DVD (vs. TeX Live 2009)

After searching the forum, it seems this question has not been asked ... I am puzzled by the huge difference in installation times (from a DVD) between TeX Live (TL) 2010 and TL 2009: approx. 55 minutes for TL 2009 vs. approx. 7 minutes (!) for TL 2010. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced ...
