TeX Live

TeX Live 2015 has been released. TeX Live is a comprehensive TeX and LaTeX system running on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and other Unix operating systems. For Mac OS X, a special version MacTeX 2015 is available.

Some of the changes:

  • The fixes, which were previously available by explicitly loading the fixltx2e package, are now enabled by default. You still can revert to the old behavior: the new latex release package enables you to switch on backwards compatibility to a chosen release date.
  • A small but useful improvement is a new float storage allocation mechanism. By default, LaTeX could handle 18 floats at a time, a higher number would cause an error. Now, you can say \extrafloats{600} to allow 600 more.
  • Under the hood, it improved the support for Unicode engines.
  • The release uses a new build system.
  • pdfTeX now supports EXIF metadata in JPEG files.
  • The shell script fmtutil has been reimplemented in Perl. Now it works with multiple formats at once, and it’s better customizable.

LaTeX Templates is partnering with LaTeX Community PDF Print E-mail
News - LaTeX Community
Written by Stefan Kottwitz

Ford circles

The LaTeXTemplates.com website teamed up with the LaTeX-Community.org forum. The website provides a lot of carefully designed LaTeX templates for various purposes. Originally, users posted questions regarding the templates on the template site itself, while Vel as the maintainer provided support.

From now on, LaTeX-Community.org will provide support for the templates. So, LaTeX template users can expect to get help by more users. Our forum members gladly provide additional support. Vel joined our forum team as a moderator. He moved existing forums and topics to the LaTeX Community forum.

Sure, our LaTeX experts sometimes look sceptically at the common practice of using templates. But this refers to often outdated and unmaintained templates, for example oder student's templates at universities. However, LaTeXTemplates.com carefully creates, selects and maintains templates. Without doubt, a good template can give a quickstart to new users, while supporting the idea to separate content and design.

So, if you got a question regarding a template, visit the LaTeX Templates subforum on our site. A post at the top provides background information with download links and tag links. The forum is structured in themed categories. In addition, each template's topic can be accessed by it's tag, such as for example modern-cv.

All, feel free to explore! We also welcome LaTeX enthusiasts who join our effort in supporting LaTeX in general.

News - LaTeX Editors

Sunday, 20 July 2014 23:45

LyX got a small maintenance update, the current version is now 2.1.1. It's important to update, if you already use v2.1.0, since there's a serious bug which was handled now: with 2.1.0 data loss could occur when LyX would crash during saving, leaving the document fiel corrupted. Though the exact cause is not clear yet, the developers implemented a workaround: now LyX renames the original file bevor saving, keeping it as a temporary backup. This file could be used for restoring, just in a case of such a crash.
