LaTeX on tablets

Post by i2000s »

I am looking for Tablet support for notes taking. Hopefully, there is an open source project working on developing tablet supported LaTeX editors! I know Inlarg and TeXTablet are on the way, but they are either not free or too simple...

Best wishes,
晓东

LaTeX on tablets

Post by Stefan Kottwitz »

It depends on the tablet's operating system: Linux, Android, iOS, or Windows, or something else. This vague question is hardly answerable.

Generally: you can take notes with any text editor. Just for compiling you need a (La)TeX engine.
  • Choose a Linux tablet if you would like to benefit from free and open source software, such as TeX Live.
  • For Android, there's a TeX Live 2012 port, in development stage and to be released this year. Furthermore, there's TeXPortal. And you can root your system and install a basic Linux which is capable of running standard TeX Live.
  • With a proprietary system such as iOS you probably can see apps made for earning money. For example, there's TeX Writer. But there's a try with TeX Live on iOS.
Anyway, there's a trend that tablets work online and with internet flat rates, so online compilers can be used indepenently of the tablet operating system.
